Merivale's latest 200-seat restaurant is a vibrant homage to the 1970s underground dining scenes of New York, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. The visual identity brings together nostalgic details and high-energy design elements that transport guests into an edgy yet sophisticated atmosphere. As art director, the challenge lay in seamlessly blending retro flair with modern intensity, capturing the venue’s unique character. Selecting renowned photographer Hugh Davison was key to translating this vision into a photographic style that echoed the venue’s spirit, striking the perfect balance between gritty charm and elevated dining.

The goal was to introduce and promote the latest seasonal cocktails at Merivale by encouraging customers to explore a variety of options they might not typically consider. We devised a strategy to entice them into discovering a new favorite cocktail. The idea was to create an alluring experience that sparked curiosity and encouraged patrons to venture beyond their usual choices, thereby enhancing their overall enjoyment of our diverse cocktail offerings.

This year, Mardi Gras has merged with a global celebration World Pride 2023 (think, the Olympics of gay pride) ― and, with a bigger festival comes bigger a catalogue of events.
It was set to be a celebration that heightened every sense. The colours felt brighter, the parties felt wilder, and the love felt infinite. This was Mardi Gras, with the volume turned up.
To represent the scale of the event, we brought this campaign to life with surrealist creative that used manipulations of scale and rich colours to capture up the sense of heightened emotion. Each abstract art piece featured talent, alongside a larger-than-life Merivale event-specific prop (cocktail, disco ball, floaties & cherries). This allowed us to showcase different types of events, while capturing the EXPERIENCE in an unexpected way.
Each talent of the campaign was casted among the staff, celebrating the queer members of the Merivale family.
A multitude of collaterals were created to support the campaign. A print magazine was distributed to patrons, a seaplane was designed to wear proudly the LGBTQIA+ colours, and accessorises for staff to wear were offered.
Additionally Merivale hosted 40+ events during Sydney Pride - who required event design & multi channel promotion.

Creative lead of the relaunch of Sydney's iconic Chinese Laundry, reopening in June 2024 after a four-year hiatus. The new visual identity captures the venue's evolution toward deeper strains of house, techno, and jungle, while honoring its underground rave roots that have defined the space since the '60s. Contributions included designing the refreshed brand identity, crafting the social media strategy of the relaunch, and overseeing art direction for photography and content. Additional work encompassed designing venue collateral and exclusive merchandise, ensuring a seamless blend of the club’s legacy with its new direction.

To show that you can wash high-end clothing with confidence using AEG washing machines, we created a video content piece featuring contemporary dancers wearing fashion-forward outfits made of delicate fabrics. We see the fabric and the dancers turning and “levitating” to mimic a wash or dry cycle in an abstract and beautiful way. Social media content & print advertorials were part of the campaign.

To celebrate Mardi Gras in 2022, Merivale shined a light on the superheroes who live among us. The ones who support the community, the ones who speak out, the ones who change perceptions, the ones who let their true identity shine.
The campaign – titled ‘WE ARE ALL HEROES’ – saw members of the community coming together to share their stories of heroism and highlight that, in our own way, we can all be superheroes and make a difference, whether we wear a cape or not.
From guardian angels to the mother of drag and the original pride pioneers - each community member posed in custom-made outfits, together forming the colours of the pride flag.

The Art of Living - a holistic lifestyle message.
To help launch David Jones’ “Art of living” campaign in Australia, we created a video content series featuring interviews with actress Teresa Palmer, model Jessica Gomes, delicious editor-in-chief Kerrie McCallum and Vogue Living editor Rebecca Caratti.
Filmed at Mona, our editors and influencers with four unique lifestyles acknowledged the art of living with their own personal story.
The series received over 1.08M completed video views. We also developed a toolkit full of campaign elements to help all the various teams create media that had a consistent look across more than 300 individual marketing pieces.
The campaign was hugely successful with double-digit store visit uplift nationally.
